Voter turnout appears to have started out healthy in at least a couple of Lansing city voting precincts.

"It's steady," said Kathy Bergdolt, chairwoman for Ward 1's No. 1 precinct at Otto Middle School. "It's not wet. It's not slippery. It's not precipitating. The chilly (weather) doesn't hold people back too much."

As of 10:30 a.m., that precinct had seen 79 voters.

At Ward 3 at Lewton Elementary School, election workers saw similar turnouts. Lewton houses two precincts.

"It's above our expectations," said Willie Vinson, co-chairwoman of Ward 3's No. 4 precinct.

As of 11:30 a.m., that precinct had seen 115 voters. Thirty feet away, the workers at Ward 4's precinct No. 15 had seen 161 voters. "I think we're doing better than the other precincts," said Chairwoman Marga McCurdy. Information about turnout throughout the city was still being gathered by the city clerk's office, which typically takes a reading on voter activity about 11 a.m. on election days.
