The Ionia boys cross country team captured the Division 2 state championship today at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Austin Alcala's seventh-place finish led the Bulldogs to the title.

Potterville's boys were fourth in Division 4. In Division 2 girls, Williamston took fourth and East Lansing fifth. Leslie's girls finished fourth in Division 4 girls.

Individually, Lansing Catholic's Megan Heeder finished second in the girls Division 3 race. Sarnac's Melinda Palinkas was fourth in Division 4 girls. In Division 2 boys, St. Johns' Morsi Rayyan finished fifth.

At the Division 1 boys state soccer championship, Holt lost 1-0 to Birmingham Brother Rice at Athens High in Troy. For more, read Sunday's Lansing State Journal and lsj.com.
